A woman who assaulted another woman over a double-parking dispute alongside her husband has received a suspended prison sentence.
On the 30th, the Incheon District Court's Criminal Division 5 (Presiding Judge Hong Jun-seo) sentenced a 39-year-old woman, identified as A, to one year in prison with a two-year suspension, along with 160 hours of community service, for violating the Act on Punishment of Violent Acts (joint assault).
The court stated, "The defendant has not been forgiven by the victim," but added, "Taking into account that her involvement was not significant and that her husband B, who played the leading role, has already been sentenced to two years in prison."
A was indicted for jointly assaulting a woman in her 30s, identified as C, with her 40-year-old husband B, a former bodybuilder, at a shopping complex parking lot in Nonhyeon-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, around 10:34 a.m. on May 20, 2023.
At the time, C had asked B to move his car that was blocking hers due to double-parking, which led to an argument. B responded with verbal abuse, physical assault, and even spat at her. When C held onto B's clothing, A reportedly kicked C once in the body and leg.
The couple then pulled C to the ground by her hair and continued to beat her with their fists and other means. During the incident, A was also heard saying, "Call the police. I’m pregnant. I’ll just say I was the one who got hit," when C shouted for help.
C suffered six weeks of injuries, including fractured ribs, due to the assault.
Earlier, B was sentenced to two years in prison at his first trial and was taken into custody. He received the same sentence on appeal and did not contest the verdict, finalizing his sentence.
A high school student in Cheongju designated for special education has been arrested for injuring six people in a stabbing rampage.
On the 30th, the Cheongju District Court issued an arrest warrant for a teenage student, identified as A, on charges including attempted murder.
The court explained, "The suspect prepared weapons in advance and carried out a planned attack on random individuals, indicating a flight risk."
When appearing for the warrant review, A briefly told reporters, "I’m sorry," when asked about the hardships of school life.
A, a second-year student at a high school in Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, is accused of wielding a knife at teachers in a special education classroom and hallway around 8:36 a.m. on the 28th. He then fled the school and also attacked two unrelated civilians with the knife.
A had reportedly been under significant stress due to general school life difficulties and financial hardship at home. He believed that problems with peers were his fault, which led to prolonged frustration.
This year, A had been reassigned to general classes and attended regular lessons. On the day of the incident, he arrived at school earlier than usual and visited the special education room for counseling. During the session, he physically assaulted the special education teacher, choked them, and pulled a knife from his bag.
Hearing the teacher's screams, the school principal, administrative staff, and janitorial workers rushed to the hallway and sustained serious injuries to the chest and abdomen while trying to stop him.
A then fled outside the school and injured two civilians either with the knife or by bumping into them. All six victims are reported to be in stable condition.
It was later revealed that A had packed four knives in his bag the night before and had planned to harm people at school and then take his own life. About 10 minutes after the attack, he jumped into a lake 70 meters from the school but was rescued by firefighters and arrested on the spot.
Police are conducting a forensic analysis of A’s phone and continuing to investigate the exact details of the incident.
