Teenagers who caused a fatal car crash while driving a rental vehicle without a license have drawn public outrage after posting dance videos on social media from their hospital beds.
A tragic accident occurred at 4:09 a.m. on May 11 in Tangjeong-myeon, Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, when a teenager driving a rental car without a license struck a median, sending debris flying into the opposite lane and killing a 60-year-old taxi driver.
Emergency crews transported the three teen passengers and the taxi driver, who was in cardiac arrest, to a nearby hospital, but the driver ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The rental car also caught fire but was extinguished within 17 minutes.
Shockingly, after the incident, the teenage offenders posted TikTok videos from the hospital, dancing in medical gowns with back braces. One video even captured a teen laughing after saying, “It sucks,” in response to a friend’s question about how the crash felt.
Eyewitnesses also reported that the driver claimed, “It’s not my fault—I was going under 90 km/h,” blaming the crash on tire issues.
The victim’s daughter publicly expressed her grief and called for strong legal action, stating, “My father was a careful driver with no accident history. Our family was shattered in an instant. These teens show no fear of the law because the punishments are too weak.”
A 60-year-old motel owner in Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, was brutally assaulted by a guest in his 20s after verifying ID and informing him about additional charges.
On May 9, a violent incident occurred at a self-service motel in Yeongju operated by a man in his 60s and his wife. After two young-looking male guests checked in, the owner's wife advised her husband to verify their age. Upon checking their IDs, which confirmed they were born in 2006 and thus legally adults, the owner informed them that extra charges would apply for more than two guests per room.
One of the men suddenly accused the owner of being drunk and picked a fight. He then knocked the owner to the ground and punched him repeatedly.
The victim's wife called the police immediately. The assailants fled but one returned to return a mistakenly taken phone and was arrested by police.
The victim, Mr. A, suffered serious injuries including a concussion, nasal fracture, and orbital fracture requiring eight weeks of recovery. He also reported that two underage girls appeared to be waiting outside the building, implying an attempt to involve them in the stay.
The police provided the victim with a smart watch for protection and are currently investigating the attacker.
