📍Killed girlfriend after stock dispute, hid body for nearly a year while impersonating her; court cites risk of evidence destruction and flight
A man in his 40s has been arrested in Gunsan after strangling his girlfriend to death and hiding her body in a kimchi refrigerator for nearly a year. He continued to impersonate the victim to deceive her family and manage her finances, but his crimes unraveled after a missing persons report and police investigation.

■ Case Overview
A man in his 40s, identified as A, was arrested in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, for strangling his girlfriend B to death and concealing her body in a kimchi refrigerator. The Jeonju District Court Gunsan Branch issued an arrest warrant on September 30, citing concerns of evidence tampering and flight risk.
■ The Crime and Concealment
Investigations revealed that A committed the crime on October 20 last year after an argument over stock investments. Following the murder, he purchased a kimchi refrigerator specifically to hide the body.
To cover up his crime, A used B’s phone to send messages to her family and even paid rent on her apartment. He also took out loans and used credit cards under B’s name to maintain the façade.
■ Family Suspicion and Police Involvement
B’s family grew suspicious when she communicated only through messaging apps and avoided phone calls for nearly a year. After they reported her missing, police began tracing the case. Pressured by the investigation, A instructed his current girlfriend, C, to impersonate B during a phone call.
C, however, questioned the unusual request, and upon confrontation, A confessed his crime. C shared this information with an acquaintance, who alerted the police. On September 29, police arrested A at a studio apartment in Gunsan and discovered B’s body inside the refrigerator at her former villa.
■ Arrest and Confession
During police questioning, A admitted, “I killed her during an argument over stocks and hid the body in the refrigerator.” He reportedly lived off stock trading without a stable occupation.
■ Ongoing Investigation
Police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to confirm the exact cause of death. They are also investigating financial activities carried out under B’s identity.
This shocking case, involving both a brutal murder and a year-long cover-up, has sparked widespread outrage and concern in the community.
