📍Chinese Man Accused of Distributing Drug-Laced Drinks in Seoul Allegedly Tortured and Killed Korean Student in Cambodia
A Chinese suspect accused of torturing and killing a Korean college student in Cambodia is now alleged to have been involved in the infamous “Daechi-dong drug drink case” that shocked South Korea two years ago. Korean police are reviewing related evidence as Cambodian prosecutors have indicted three other Chinese suspects linked to the murder.

🔹 Connection to the Daechi-dong Drug Drink Case
A self-organized Korean vigilante group in Cambodia, Cheonma, revealed that the main suspect in the killing of a Korean college student, surnamed Park, in Kampot Province’s Bokor region, is a 34-year-old Chinese man named Li. According to Cheonma, Li has a history of drug-related offenses and was allegedly the distribution leader in the “Daechi-dong drug drink case” that occurred in Seoul’s Gangnam area in April 2023. That incident involved distributing drinks laced with narcotics to students in the private academy district, causing nationwide outrage. Cheonma further claimed that Li forced Park to take drugs and filmed the torture that led to his death. The group stated that it obtained the video evidence and shared it with the Korean police.
🔹 Cambodian Prosecutors Indict Three Accomplices
According to Cambodia’s state-run AKP news agency, prosecutors in Kampot Province indicted three Chinese nationals aged in their 30s and 40s on charges of murder and fraud on October 11. The suspects are accused of killing the Korean student in the Bokor area in August and are believed to have worked with Li’s criminal network. Li, however, remains at large, and local authorities suspect he may have fled Cambodia to a neighboring country.
🔹 Korean Police Reviewing the Report
Cheonma shared its findings and video evidence with Korean authorities, requesting cooperation. An official from the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency confirmed that “officers have contacted Cheonma and reviewed parts of the video,” but added that “the police have not confirmed or commented on any link between Li and the Daechi-dong drug case.” Korean police are currently analyzing the authenticity of the footage and investigating the potential connection between the suspect and the victim.
🔹 Shock and Concern Among Koreans in Cambodia
The case has sparked strong reactions among the Korean community in Cambodia. The revelation that the main suspect may have ties to a notorious drug case in Korea has intensified fears of growing organized crime targeting Koreans overseas. One Korean resident in Phnom Penh said, “Crimes against Koreans in Cambodia are becoming increasingly organized. The Korean government must act more decisively to protect its citizens.” Public sentiment in Korea is also critical, with many arguing that authorities have been slow to respond to crimes involving Koreans abroad and must establish stronger international protective measures.
