📍Cabin manager assaulted while stopping an argument; incident classified as a serious aviation security violation
A violent incident occurred on a Jin Air flight traveling from Busan to Cebu, when a passenger assaulted a cabin manager attempting to calm a dispute between passengers. The flight attendant suffered bleeding and visible bruises, and the passenger was isolated until landing and handed over to local police. The airline described the event as a serious threat to aviation safety and announced strong legal action.

🔹 Passenger Becomes Violent, Attacks Cabin Manager
On the afternoon of the 17th, a disturbance broke out aboard Jin Air flight LJ073 from Busan to Cebu when passenger A engaged in a heated argument with another traveler. When a flight attendant attempted to intervene, A struck the cabin manager, causing bleeding and bruising. The cabin atmosphere turned tense, and crew members immediately subdued A and relocated him to a separate seat in accordance with safety protocols.
🔹 No Emergency Landing…Passenger Handed Over After Landing
Because the aircraft had already departed, the airline determined that returning to Korea was not feasible, and the flight continued to Cebu as scheduled. Upon landing, A was transferred directly to local airport police. Jin Air stated that although no operational disruption occurred, the injuries sustained by the crew member made the incident extremely serious.
🔹 Possible Violation of Aviation Security Law
Jin Air emphasized that the event constitutes a major violation of aviation security. Under Article 43 of Korea’s Aviation Security Act, obstructing the lawful duty of a captain or flight attendant through violence or threats is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Experts warn that in-flight assaults are considered severe crimes due to the inherent risks of aircraft environments.
🔹 Additional Investigation Underway
The Kimhae Airport Police are now reviewing the incident and verifying whether A was transferred voluntarily or arrested by local authorities. Police stated that further legal measures will follow after confirming the details. With similar incidents recurring, calls have grown for stricter in-flight enforcement and preventive measures.
