25.03.27.Today News : Press Conference by the Late Kim Sae-ron's Family / Recognition of officer self-defence in subduing an armed assailant
The family of the late Kim Sae-ron held a press conference, revealing concrete evidence—including KakaoTalk messages and letters—regarding allegations of an underage relationship between actress Kim Sae-ron and Kim Soo-hyun. The family also urged an end to false accusations and criticism directed at them, announcing legal action against relevant YouTubers and an individual claiming to be a former boyfriend.
On the afternoon of the 27th, the late Kim Sae-ron's family held a press conference at an undisclosed location in Seocho-gu, Seoul. Attorney Bu Ji-seok from the law firm Buyu, representing the bereaved family, stated that the purpose of the press conference was to "urge people to stop criticizing the family." He disclosed KakaoTalk messages and letters containing evidence of the late actress’s alleged six-year relationship with Kim Soo-hyun. "We intend to put an end to the controversy with these evidentiary materials, " Bu added. "This is not a place to discuss why Kim Sae-ron ended her life. The family does not wish for a meaningless debate over the truth to continue."
Subsequently, messages exchanged between Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron from 2016 were made public. In the messages, the late actress appeared to send a kiss emoji, to which Kim Soo-hyun responded, "Do it for real later." When Kim Soo-hyun asked, "Will it take about a year?" Kim Sae-ron replied, "There’s no such thing as ‘when you want to’; I’ll do it when I feel like it." Additional messages from Kim Soo-hyun, such as "When can I fall asleep holding you?" and "I feel like I’d sleep so well if I could," were also disclosed. Attorney Bu emphasized that "Kim Sae-ron was 17 years old at the time."
Evidence regarding the mental distress the late actress suffered—including a legal notice demanding 700 million KRW—was also presented. A letter she wrote to Kim Soo-hyun after receiving the notice was among the disclosed materials, though it was never delivered to him.
In the letter, Kim Sae-ron expressed a desire to restore her relationship with Kim Soo-hyun, stating, "We’ve been together for about five or six years. You were my first and last love, so I hope you won’t avoid me." She left her contact information, hoping for a reply. The letter ended with, "I won’t interfere in your life anymore," yet also stated, "Please don’t hate me, and I hope we can meet again with smiles someday."
The family also addressed various speculations and the spread of false information. Attorney Bu clarified that the family’s intent was never to expose Kim Soo-hyun for financial gain, saying, "The claim that the bereaved family disclosed the relationship for money is false." He added, "The family knows that after receiving the legal notice from Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Kim Sae-ron felt extreme anxiety, called a suicide prevention center, and engaged in self-harm."
Furthermore, Bu refuted recent claims made by YouTuber Lee Jin-ho and an individual claiming to be Kim Sae-ron’s ex-boyfriend, who alleged that the family neglected her. "Her mother was always by her side, caring for her as her manager since childhood, " he stated. "What kind of parent would ignore their child’s self-harm?" He announced plans to sue YouTuber Lee Jin-ho for stalking-related offenses and confirmed that legal action would also be taken against the alleged ex-boyfriend.
A police officer who shot and killed a suspect wielding a weapon during a violent attack has been ruled to have acted in self-defense.
On the 27th, the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced that the investigation into Inspector A from Gwangju Dongbu Police Station had concluded with no criminal charges, determining that he had acted lawfully in the line of duty when he fired live rounds at the armed suspect.
The police also closed the case against the suspect, 51-year-old B, for obstructing law enforcement with injury, citing "lack of prosecutorial authority" due to his death.
Authorities justified the officer’s use of a firearm, noting that B continued his lethal attack within a one-meter proximity despite multiple warnings and orders to surrender. Inspector A was fending off B’s attack with one hand while using his firearm with the other, making it difficult to aim below the suspect’s thighs, according to the police assessment.
After analyzing CCTV footage, witness statements, and legal precedents, investigators determined that the officer had acted appropriately.
A police spokesperson stated, "The use of a firearm was deemed legal under self-defense circumstances, as it was necessary to counter an unjust threat to life."
The incident occurred at approximately 3:10 AM on the 27th of last month in an alley near Geumnam-ro 4-ga Intersection, Gwangju. Officers had responded to a report when B suddenly drew a knife from a paper bag and started attacking them. Despite repeated warnings, B refused to drop the weapon.
In an attempt to subdue him, Officer C first deployed a taser, but it missed. Following that, a warning shot was fired. During this time, B attacked Inspector A twice, leading to a struggle at close range where three live rounds were discharged.
Autopsy results showed that two bullets hit B’s upper body. One bullet remained lodged in a vital organ, while another passed through his body. The third bullet missed.
