25.03.31.Today News : Woman Dies After Structure Collapse at Changwon NC Park / Kim Soo-hyun Holds Emergency Press Conference
A 20-year-old woman who was critically injured in a structural collapse at Changwon NC Park has tragically passed away.
On the 29th, during the NC vs. LG Twins game at Changwon NC Park, an aluminum "louver" structure fixed to the wall of a concession stand near the third base side fell around 5:20 PM. A piece of the structure bounced off and struck the victim, causing severe injuries. She was taken to the intensive care unit for treatment but ultimately passed away on the 31st.
An official from the Masan Dongbu Police Station confirmed on the 31st, "The woman who sustained critical injuries has passed away this morning." The police, in collaboration with the National Forensic Service, are conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and will also examine whether any parties are liable for professional negligence resulting in death.
The accident was both tragic and shocking. Reports indicate that the structure, initially falling from the fourth floor, bounced off the roof of a first-floor concession stand before hitting spectators waiting in line. Three spectators were injured in the incident.
The deceased woman suffered a severe head injury, while another woman sustained a fractured collarbone and was immediately transported to the hospital. Despite undergoing surgery on the night of the 29th and receiving continued treatment in the ICU, the victim succumbed to her injuries on the morning of the 31st. It was later revealed that the deceased woman and the teenage girl with the fractured collarbone were sisters, adding to the heartbreak.
Another injured spectator suffered a leg contusion and is receiving medical care while recovering from the psychological trauma of witnessing the accident firsthand.
The structure involved in the accident was an aluminum "louver" measuring approximately 2.6 meters in length and 40 centimeters in width.
Following the incident, NC issued an official statement expressing deep regret: "We sincerely wish for the quick recovery of those who were injured. We are doing everything we can to take necessary measures. Moving forward, we will work with relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and implement preventive measures to ensure this does not happen again."
As a result of the accident, the NC vs. LG game scheduled for the 30th was abruptly canceled to allow for a safety inspection of the facility. The rescheduled date for this game has not yet been confirmed.
Furthermore, the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization) announced that the upcoming three-game series between the NC Dinos and SSG Landers, scheduled from April 1st to 3rd at Changwon NC Park, will be played without spectators.
The KBO previously stated, "Due to the structural collapse accident in Changwon on March 29th, the LG-NC game scheduled for the 30th was postponed. Since additional time is needed for follow-up safety inspections, the KBO and both teams have agreed to proceed with the upcoming games without spectators. Moving forward, the KBO will prioritize the safety of spectators in all stadiums."
Additionally, on the 30th, the KBO conducted emergency safety inspections at four stadiums—Gocheok Dome, Jamsil Stadium, Hanwha Life Eagles Park, and Sajik Stadium—excluding NC Park. KBO game operations officials and team representatives checked the structures and facilities inside and outside each venue. To show support for the injured spectators, fan cheering was minimized during games on the 30th.
Since the 31st, NC has been conducting an urgent safety inspection of the stadium to identify the exact cause of the accident and establish preventive measures. However, with the tragic passing of the victim, additional schedule changes and further measures are likely to follow.
Actor Kim Soo-hyun held an emergency press conference at 4:30 PM on March 31 at Stanford Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul, addressing the ongoing controversies. This comes approximately 20 days after the allegations first surfaced.
Kim Soo-hyun has been accused of dating the late Kim Sae-ron since 2015 when she was 15 years old and later pressuring her to repay a debt of 700 million KRW after their breakup, despite her financial struggles. On March 14, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency denied these claims. However, on March 27, Kim Sae-ron’s family held a press conference, presenting digital forensic evidence from her phone, allegedly proving their relationship during her minor years.
At the press conference, Kim Soo-hyun stated, “It seems that too many people are suffering because of me. I feel nothing but sorrow, as it seems even the deceased cannot rest in peace.” However, he completely denied allegations that he dated Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. He admitted, “We dated for about a year, four years before *Queen of Tears* aired.” Addressing why he initially denied the relationship, he explained, “At the time of the drama’s airing, I had to protect my co-stars, staff, and production team. Even if I could go back, I would make the same choice.”
Kim also refuted claims that he pressured Kim Sae-ron into repaying a debt and disputed the authenticity of messages between Kim Sae-ron and her acquaintances, which were presented as evidence. He asserted that the Instagram Story post by Kim Sae-ron during *Queen of Tears* was actually from 2018, not 2016, and that several details regarding their age gap and her contract expiration were inaccurate. He further stated, “The late Kim Sae-ron was only an actress under Gold Medalist. She was never involved in rookie casting or visual directing.”
Kim Soo-hyun also alleged that false evidence and testimonies were being fabricated based on their past relationship, with manipulated images and videos being presented as proof. He stated, “I cannot accept the threats forcing me to acknowledge lies as truth,” and denied claims that the agency’s pressure for debt repayment led to her tragic decision. “After our breakup, Kim Sae-ron was in another relationship, and we had no further contact,” he explained.
He also countered allegations from Kim Sae-ron’s family lawyer that a second legal notice had pressured her to repay the debt. Kim’s legal team released an audio recording of a phone call between the former CEO of Gold Medalist and the CEO of Kim Sae-ron’s then-agency. In the recording, the former Gold Medalist CEO stated, “Another legal notice will be sent. Not sending it would be a breach of duty, so it must be sent as a procedural necessity. We are flexible with the repayment timeline, and we just need confirmation on when it can be paid back.”
Kim Soo-hyun concluded, “Even as an actor wearing a mask, I stand by what I have not done. Please believe me. I will prove the truth.”
The press conference was also attended by his legal representative, Attorney Kim Jong-bok of LKB & Partners. Kim’s lawyer announced that they had filed criminal complaints for defamation and violations of the Information and Communications Network Act against Kim Sae-ron’s family members, an unidentified woman referred to as "aunt," and the operators of *Garo Sero Institute*. Additionally, they have filed a civil lawsuit for damages totaling approximately 12 billion KRW with the Seoul Central District Court.
Regarding the decision not to take questions during the press conference, the lawyer explained, “Since we have now submitted legal complaints, this issue is officially under investigation and will be subject to legal judgment.”
