Three high school girls were found dead in the flowerbed of an apartment complex in Haeundae District, Busan, prompting the city’s education office to take immediate action. As it was confirmed that all three attended the same high school, authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation and special audit.

At approximately 1:39 a.m. on June 21, three teenage girls were discovered unconscious in a flowerbed of an apartment complex in Haeundae, Busan. Emergency services transported them to the hospital, but all were pronounced dead. According to police, the three were friends and students at the same high school. CCTV footage confirmed that they had accessed the rooftop of the apartment at around 11:30 p.m. the previous evening.
The deceased students were identified as three sophomores at Peniel High School of the Arts. Police plan to investigate various causes, including bullying and academic stress, given that the students were among their peers.
A note believed to be a suicide letter was found at the scene, and the police are currently investigating the exact cause of death, including the possibility of a joint suicide.
In response, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education convened a crisis management committee at the girls’ school and held an emergency meeting led by the superintendent. An emergency response team, headed by the director of secondary education, was formed to determine the details of the case and conduct a special inspection of the school.
A representative from the education office expressed deep condolences and stated, “We will do our utmost to ensure a thorough investigation and provide necessary support.” The incident has reignited concerns about the adequacy of mental health support systems within schools.
