25.07.21.Today News : 60s Man Faces Arrest Warrant for Fatally Shooting Son with Homemade Gun in Songdo
A shocking incident occurred in Songdo International City, Incheon, where a man in his 60s fatally shot his son with a homemade firearm. The suspect fled the scene but was arrested in Seoul hours later. Police have applied for an arrest warrant as they continue to investigate the premeditated nature of the crime.

On July 21, Incheon Yeonsu Police announced they had applied for an arrest warrant against a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of murder, attempted arson of a building, and violation of the Firearms, Swords, and Explosives Control Act. The suspect is scheduled to attend a pretrial detention hearing on the afternoon of July 22 at Incheon District Court.
The incident occurred around 9:31 p.m. on July 20 on the 33rd floor of an apartment building in Songdo, Yeonsu District. Mr. A is accused of fatally shooting his son, Mr. B (in his 30s), in the abdomen with a homemade shotgun. The shooting took place during a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Mr. A’s birthday.
According to police, Mr. A fired three shotgun rounds—two hit his son’s abdomen, while one struck a door inside the home. After the shooting, he fled in a rented vehicle. Acting on a 112 emergency call, police tracked and apprehended Mr. A in Seoul's Bangbae-dong around 12:15 a.m. on July 21. He was found still in possession of the weapon.
During questioning, Mr. A claimed that a timed explosive device had been set to detonate at noon in his home in Ssangmun-dong. In response, police evacuated 105 residents and deployed a SWAT unit to safely remove flammable substances, including gasoline.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A had learned how to make firearms by watching YouTube videos, purchased materials online, and assembled the gun himself in a workshop. A total of 13 barrels and 86 rounds of shotgun ammunition were recovered from the scene and his car.
Mr. A told police he had bought the ammunition years ago while contemplating suicide.
The police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service and deployed profilers to analyze Mr. A’s mental health and behavioral tendencies.
Authorities also confirmed that the victim, Mr. B, was the son of Ms. C, a well-known beauty franchise CEO. Ms. C and Mr. A had divorced over two decades ago.
A police spokesperson said, “We are investigating the exact motive and planning behind the crime and have applied for an arrest warrant considering the risk of evidence destruction and the potential for further offenses.”
