25.07.25.Today News : Actor Song Young-kyu Referred to Prosecutors for Driving Drunk Over 5km
Actor Song Young-kyu has been referred to prosecutors after being caught driving under the influence for about 5 kilometers in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. He admitted to the charges and apologized for his actions.

Actor Song Young-kyu (55) has been referred to the prosecution without detention after being investigated by police on suspicion of drunk driving. The incident, which took place late last month, only recently came to light.
According to the Yongin Dongbu Police Station, Song was sent to the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office at the end of last month on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act due to drunk driving.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on June 19, when Song allegedly drove about 5 kilometers from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu in Yongin while heavily intoxicated.
Police responded to a report from a citizen who suspected drunk driving. They tracked the vehicle and conducted a breathalyzer test, which revealed that Song’s blood alcohol concentration was above 0.08%—the legal limit for license revocation.
Investigations showed that Song had been drinking with acquaintances in the Giheung area and decided to drive himself home afterward.
Regarding the incident, Song said, “It was entirely my fault. I am truly sorry.” He explained, “At first, I had called for a substitute driver, but a new acquaintance came by and we talked at a convenience store. During that time, the driver left. Since my house was less than five minutes away, I made the wrong decision to drive myself using cruise control.”
He added that he was feeling unwell and had taken medication that day, saying, “I didn’t drink much alcohol, but because I took medicine, my condition worsened after drinking.”
Song Young-kyu made his debut in 1994 through the children's musical The Wizard Mureul and has since built a solid career with numerous supporting roles in dramas and films. He gained popularity for his role as Captain Choi in Extreme Job and also appeared in Narco-Saints and Casino. Currently, he stars in the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama Eye Shopping, performs in the play Shakespeare in Love, and will appear in the new SBS weekend drama Try: We Become Miracles, which premieres on July 25.
