A prime suspect in the stabbing death of a caregiver in her 50s has been found dead on the trail of Mount Surak.

A major development has emerged in the murder case of a caregiver in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province. The prime suspect, a man in his 60s, was found dead on Suraksan Mountain the day after the incident.

According to the Uijeongbu Police Station, around 10:30 a.m. on the 27th, a hiker discovered the body of the suspect, identified as Mr. A, on a trail on Suraksan. Police have confirmed that he was the main suspect in the fatal stabbing that occurred on the previous day.

On the afternoon of the 26th, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a 50-year-old caregiver, Ms. B, was found by a colleague bleeding from stab wounds at a senior care center in Uijeongbu. She was rushed to the hospital but later died from her injuries. It was confirmed that she had been working alone at the time of the attack.

Investigations revealed that Mr. A had persistently contacted and visited Ms. B since March, leading to three police reports filed against him for stalking behavior.

On March 14, he caused a disturbance after visiting Ms. B in Uijeongbu, prompting police to issue a warning. On May 25, he sent her text messages and received an official stalking warning. Then, on June 20, he showed up at her residence and was arrested on the spot.

The police subsequently applied emergency protective measures and requested a court-issued provisional order. The emergency measures were approved retroactively, but the prosecutor rejected the provisional order.

A police official explained, “Emergency protective orders and provisional court orders both restrict contact, but provisional orders are more comprehensive and typically used in more severe cases.”

It was also confirmed that there was no emergency alert activated via a smart device, such as a smartwatch, at the time of the attack.

Authorities are now working to determine the exact cause of Mr. A’s death and the full timeline of events surrounding the murder.

One-line summary : The suspect in the Uijeongbu caregiver murder case was found dead on a Suraksan hiking trail.
