Song Young-kyu, a veteran actor known for his performances in both films and dramas, was found dead in his car in Yongin. Police are currently investigating the cause of death, and no suicide note has been found.

Actor Song Young-kyu (53) was found dead on the morning of July 4 inside a parked vehicle at a residential complex in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. According to the police, a friend discovered Song unconscious in the car around 8 a.m. and immediately reported it, but he was already deceased.
There were no signs of foul play or intrusion, and no suicide note has been recovered. The police plan to question Song's family to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death and to understand his recent state of mind.
Song debuted in 1994 through the children's musical “Wizard Mureul” and had a long-standing career in theater and film. He rose to mainstream fame after portraying Chief Choi in the 2019 hit movie “Extreme Job” and later appeared in well-known productions like Netflix’s “Narco-Saints” and Disney+’s “Big Bet.”
Recently, he had been performing in the play “Shakespeare in Love” at the Seoul Arts Center and was also cast in TV dramas such as ENA’s “Eye Shopping” and SBS’s “Try: We Become Miracles.” However, his career faced a setback after it was revealed that he had been caught driving under the influence on June 25.
The DUI incident involved Song driving approximately 5 kilometers from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu in Yongin while intoxicated. His blood alcohol concentration was above the license revocation threshold (0.08%). He later apologized in an interview, saying, “I made a terrible mistake. I had originally called a designated driver, but due to a misunderstanding, I ended up driving myself.”
Song’s memorial is set up at Dabos Hospital Funeral Hall in Yongin, Room 1. The funeral service will take place at 8 a.m. on July 6, followed by burial at Hambaeksan Memorial Park.
