📍Police arrest man for refusing breathalyzer test; past controversies resurface amid online speculation
Sanghaegi, a popular mukbang YouTuber with 1.65 million subscribers, is under fire after being identified as the man arrested for refusing a breathalyzer test and attempting to flee from police. Authorities are investigating the case, while the YouTuber has yet to make an official statement.

■ Refusal of Breathalyzer and Attempted Escape
Seoul Songpa Police announced on the 23rd that they had arrested a man in his 30s, identified as A, on charges of refusing a breathalyzer test under the Road Traffic Act. The incident occurred in the early morning of the 21st, when officers responded to a drunk driving report.
According to police, A drove approximately 12 kilometers from Gangnam to Songpa before stopping his vehicle and fleeing about 300 meters on foot. Despite repeated demands, he refused to comply with the breathalyzer test and was ultimately apprehended.
■ Speculation Linking A to YouTuber Sanghaegi
It was later revealed that A was a well-known YouTuber with over 1.65 million subscribers, leading to widespread speculation that the individual was Sanghaegi (real name Kwon Sang-hyuk), a popular mukbang creator.
Comments flooded Sanghaegi’s social media accounts, with users writing messages such as “Did you drink?”, “Why would you do that?”, and “Please explain yourself.” However, as of now, Sanghaegi has not issued any official response.
■ Past “Backdoor Advertising” Controversy Resurfaces
The scandal has also reignited past criticism of Sanghaegi. In 2020, he faced backlash after it was discovered that several of his mukbang videos were undisclosed paid advertisements. At the time, he admitted to running 36 sponsored videos out of 234 and publicly apologized for the lack of transparency.
■ Mixed Online Reactions
While many netizens expressed disappointment and anger, others urged caution, emphasizing that it is dangerous to make assumptions without official confirmation. Despite these calls for restraint, his social media accounts remain inundated with negative comments and speculation.
■ Sanghaegi’s Career and Background
Sanghaegi previously served in the military before working as a fitness trainer, eventually rising to fame as a mukbang YouTuber. Known for his “real sound” eating videos and food challenges, he gained attention for maintaining a muscular physique despite consuming large amounts of food.
He participated in Seoul Fashion Week in 2019 and also appeared on the KBS2 variety show Boss in the Mirror, further boosting his public recognition.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, and public attention remains focused on whether Sanghaegi will address the allegations directly.
