A Korean man in his 40s who traveled to Cambodia has been missing for over a week after losing contact.

🔹Contact lost three days after arrival in Phnom Penh
Lee Mo, a 42-year-old office worker from Jeonju, departed for Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on a six-day trip on September 24. However, all communication with his family was cut off just three days later.
Despite repeated attempts via KakaoTalk and social media, his phone has remained unreachable.
His father said, “There’s no answer no matter how many times we call. We have no idea where he is or what happened to him.”

🔹Last GPS signal from Phnom Penh hotel area
The family traced his last GPS signal to a hotel in central Phnom Penh, but the hotel confirmed that Lee had never checked in.
A close friend said, “The GPS shows his phone was near the hotel. Authorities should focus the search in that area as quickly as possible.”

Local police and the Korean embassy in Cambodia are currently cooperating to verify his safety, but no leads have been found.

🔹Family fears possible abduction or crime
Lee’s mother expressed deep concern, saying, “We heard about recent kidnapping cases in Cambodia involving tourists. We’re terrified something bad happened to him.”
The family has begun sharing his photos and disappearance details on social media, hoping someone may provide information.

🔹Rising crime cases involving Koreans in Cambodia
According to the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, crime cases involving Korean nationals in Cambodia have sharply increased—from only one case in 2022 to 17 in 2023 and 220 in 2024.
By July this year, 252 additional cases had already been reported.

In response, the government raised travel advisories for Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville, deploying additional police officers to the Korean embassy.
The ministry urged citizens to “cancel or postpone travel to areas under special advisory and relocate to safer regions if already staying there.”

The disappearance of Mr. Lee highlights growing safety risks for Korean travelers in Southeast Asia. A coordinated investigation between Cambodian authorities and the Korean government is urgently needed to locate him and prevent similar incidents in the future.
