A South Korean court has sentenced a group of men to lengthy prison terms for kidnapping and attempting to murder famous gaming YouTuber “Rooster,” who has over one million subscribers. The court ruled that the crime was meticulously planned in advance and involved brutal violence that nearly cost the victim his life.

🔹 Court Sentences Main Suspect to 30 Years, Accomplice to 25 Years

The Incheon District Court’s Criminal Division 13 sentenced used-car dealer A, 26, to 30 years in prison and accomplice B, 24, to 25 years for charges including attempted robbery-murder.

A third defendant, C, 37, who provided the vehicle and tools used in the crime and was charged with aiding aggravated robbery causing injury, received a five-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors had previously sought life imprisonment for A and B, and seven years for C during the final hearing. They are currently reviewing whether to appeal the ruling.

The court stated, “The defendants detained the victim for an extended period and carried out extremely violent assaults. The level of planning and danger involved in the crime was exceptionally high.”

The judges also noted that the defendants repeatedly gave false statements during the investigation and only partially admitted their crimes after objective evidence was presented.

🔹 Relationship Through Used-Car Deal Led to Violent Crime

The incident occurred in October last year at the underground parking lot of an apartment complex in Songdo International City, Incheon.

The victim was gaming YouTuber “Rooster” (real name Ko Jin-ho), who has more than one million subscribers.

Investigators found that the victim first met suspect A through a used-car transaction, and the relationship later expanded into private financial dealings. The victim had reportedly lent A tens of millions of won, which later led to financial disputes.

The two eventually reconnected over vehicle management issues, which prosecutors say A exploited as an opportunity to carry out the crime.

According to prosecutors, the suspects targeted the victim’s money and had attempted to lure him once before about a week earlier, though that attempt failed.

The court determined that the suspects had carefully prepared every aspect of the crime, including the abduction plan, assault methods, property concealment, and even possible disposal of the victim’s body.

🔹 Victim Beaten and Taken 200km Away

On the day of the crime, the victim entered the suspects’ vehicle to meet A but quickly sensed something was wrong.

Inside the vehicle was another man hiding in the back seat wearing a black hoodie, mask, and gloves. Feeling threatened, the victim immediately called emergency services.

The situation rapidly escalated afterward.

The suspects strangled the victim, repeatedly beat his head and chest with a baseball bat, tied his hands with cable ties, and drove him nearly 200 kilometers to Geumsan in South Chungcheong Province.

The victim suffered severe injuries including a skull fracture and loss of consciousness. Investigators stated that his life was in serious danger.

Fortunately, the victim’s emergency call became the key clue in locating the suspects. Police tracked the vehicle shortly after the report and arrested the suspects in the act about four hours later. The victim was rescued alive.

🔹 Court Says Defendants Showed No Remorse

Explaining the sentencing, the court stated that the defendants had not been forgiven by the victim and made no effort to compensate or repair the damage caused.

Regarding defendant C, who provided the vehicle and tools, the court said he understood the general outline of the crime and willingly assisted it, making his responsibility significant.

The case shocked the public because it involved the premeditated kidnapping and attempted murder of a well-known online creator. Many were particularly disturbed that the suspects exploited an existing personal relationship to commit the crime.

Following the ruling, online communities and YouTube viewers expressed reactions such as, “This could have turned into a major murder case,” and “Without the 112 emergency call, the outcome might have been far worse.”
