2. ‘Myung Jae Wan’ Case Details

Police released the details of Myung Jae-wan (48, pictured), a teacher who murdered an elementary school student on campus, on 12 December. The police said that Myung's crime was the result of a domestic dispute and stress at work.

Myung allegedly took Kim to an audio-visual room at 5:50 p.m. on 10 October last month when she was returning home from a nursery class at an elementary school in Daejeon and murdered her with a weapon he had purchased himself.

A police investigation revealed that Myung's crime was an outlet for his anger and stress, which had built up due to domestic discord, dissatisfaction with his job and with himself. Police say he initially tried to take extreme measures, but three to seven days prior to the murder, he shifted his expression to harming others.

The police investigated Myung as a premeditated crime, as he had purchased the weapon himself and had searched for articles about past murders. Despite Myung's statement that he bought the weapon ‘to kill himself,’ police determined that he had a plan and purpose to kill someone. The police said that Myung also made a statement in which he admitted to premeditation to some extent.
