📍Officer known as inspiration for Ma Dong-seok’s character tested above license cancellation level — internal probe launched
A police officer known as the real-life model for the detective portrayed by actor Ma Dong-seok in the hit crime film The Outlaws has been suspended after being caught driving under the influence.

🔹 DUI incident involving well-known police figure
According to Seoul Suseo Police Station, Officer A was booked on suspicion of drunk driving after causing a minor collision on the evening of November 24 in Dogok-dong, near Gangnam Severance Hospital.
Although no casualties were reported, his blood alcohol concentration exceeded 0.08% — the legal threshold for license cancellation in South Korea. The police immediately placed him on administrative leave and launched an internal investigation.
Officer A had previously appeared on entertainment programs and gained public recognition due to his connection to the film character.
🔹 Rising concerns over repeated DUI cases in police force
Data from the past five years indicates that 322 South Korean police officers have faced disciplinary action for DUI:
■ 2021: 71
■ 2022: 61
■ 2023: 72
■ 2024: 69
■ 2025 (as of August): 49
Last year, disciplinary rules were strengthened: a first DUI offense now results in a minimum penalty of suspension, while a second violation leads to dismissal or expulsion. Attempts to evade testing, switch drivers, or flee the scene result in immediate discharge.
🔹 Police vow strict action
Officials stated they would “handle the matter sternly following the investigation.” Reporters attempted to contact Officer A, but were unable to reach him.
