Five Deer Escape from Farm in Gwangmyeong

📍Possible escape occurred a week earlier… authorities issue safety alert to residents

Gwangmyeong-si authorities have launched a search after five deer escaped from a farm in the area. The animals are believed to have crossed the fence and moved into nearby hills, with the possibility that some had already left the farm about a week earlier. Their exact whereabouts have not yet been identified, and the city has issued emergency alerts urging residents to remain cautious. Experts note that while deer are generally gentle animals, they may exhibit unpredictable behavior in unfamiliar environments and advise people not to approach them if spotted.

🔹 Escape confirmed after initial report

At around 12:32 p.m. on April 22, a report was received that deer had escaped from a farm in Okgil-dong, Gwangmyeong-si.

The farm owner initially reported that about 10 deer had escaped, but after on-site investigation and detailed CCTV review, authorities confirmed that five deer had actually left the farm.

Among them, three were adults and two were juveniles.

The farm is known to have raised around 30 deer, and the escape is believed to have occurred as the animals crossed the enclosure and moved together.

A video recorded by a nearby resident reportedly shows several deer moving in a line toward the mountain.

🔹 Search ongoing… possible earlier escape

Fire authorities searched the surrounding area after being dispatched but failed to locate the animals.

The scene was then handed over to the Gwangmyeong city government, and fire personnel withdrew.

The city is now leading the search, deploying personnel and animal capture equipment while expanding operations to nearby hills and roads where the deer are likely to have moved.

According to the farm owner, the deer may have actually left the farm about a week earlier.

The report was delayed because the owner expected the animals to return due to their homing instincts, but it was eventually reported when they did not return.

This raises the possibility that the deer may have already moved a considerable distance.

🔹 Safety concerns and warning to residents

The city sent out an emergency alert informing residents that five deer had escaped in the Okgil-dong area.

The message asked residents to report sightings to emergency services or the city office.

Authorities emphasized that people should not approach or attempt to capture the animals.

Experts explain that although deer are generally gentle, they can become easily startled and behave unpredictably in unfamiliar environments.

During escape, they may suddenly change direction or accelerate, increasing the risk of collisions with vehicles or pedestrians.

This creates the potential for safety accidents, requiring heightened caution.

City officials stated that they are checking details such as the sex and antler status of the deer and will continue the search in cooperation with related agencies.

One-line summary : Five deer that escaped from a farm in Gwangmyeong are believed to have moved into nearby hills, and authorities are continuing the search.
