Airline Captain Murder Suspect Arrested in Ulsan Within 14 Hours

A man in his 50s suspected of murdering an airline captain in Busan has been arrested in Ulsan about 14 hours after the crime. Police plan to transfer him to Busan for a full investigation into the motive and possible connection to other attacks.

🔹Airline Captain Stabbed in Busan Apartment

According to police, the suspect stabbed and killed a man in his 50s, an airline captain, at around 5:30 a.m. on March 17 in an apartment in Busanjin-gu, Busan.

The victim was found bleeding in the hallway by a resident around 7 a.m. and was taken to a hospital but later died.

Authorities believe the attack occurred near the victim’s residence.

🔹Arrested at Accommodation in Ulsan

Police tracked the suspect and arrested him at around 8:03 p.m. the same day at a lodging facility in Ulsan.

The arrest was made approximately 13 to 14 hours after the crime.

The suspect reportedly turned off his phone and avoided using credit cards while fleeing to evade tracking.

He was eventually found hiding in a motel.

🔹Possible Link to Goyang Incident

Police are also investigating a possible connection to an incident that occurred the previous day in Goyang.

The suspect is accused of attacking another former colleague at around 4:30 a.m. on March 16 in Ilsanseo-gu, attempting to strangle him.

Additionally, after the Busan murder, the suspect reportedly visited the residence of another airline-related worker in Changwon, though he was unable to enter due to police protection measures.

🔹Colleagues at Same Airline

Investigators confirmed that the suspect and victims were colleagues at the same airline.  The suspect retired in 2024 and had been living in the metropolitan area.

Industry sources indicate he may have had conflicts with colleagues related to health issues and retirement.

Police have already placed eight individuals under protection, considering the possibility of targeted attacks within the same professional group.

Police are focusing on determining the motive, tracing the weapon, and reconstructing the suspect’s movements.

They are also examining whether the crimes were premeditated and if additional offenses were planned.

Officials stated that all possibilities are being considered.
