A current KBS reporter caused controversy after driving under the influence during work hours and crashing into seven parked vehicles. As both an internal disciplinary process and a police investigation proceed, criticism is growing regarding discipline within the public broadcaster.


🔹 Drunk Driving During Work Hours…Accident Near KBS Headquarters
According to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul on the 5th, a male KBS reporter in his 50s, identified as A, has been booked without detention on charges of drunk driving.
A is accused of driving under the influence and causing an accident at around 4:40 PM on the 3rd near the KBS headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. It was confirmed that he was on duty at the time of the incident.
The accident occurred on a fire lane near a KBS daycare center. The vehicle driven by A collided sequentially with parked cars along the road, damaging a total of seven vehicles.
🔹 Seven Vehicles Hit…No Casualties Reported
Although multiple vehicles were damaged in the accident, fortunately, no casualties were reported. Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, and A was taken to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station for questioning.
Police confirmed that A’s blood alcohol concentration was within the license suspension range, between 0.03% and 0.08%.
🔹 Reporter Assigned to Election Broadcasting Team…Removed Immediately
A was reportedly working as part of KBS’s election broadcasting planning team ahead of the nationwide local elections scheduled for June 3.
KBS took immediate personnel action upon learning of the incident. On the evening of the 3rd, the same day as the accident, A was removed from his position and placed on standby, with the decision announced internally.
🔹 “Zero Tolerance Policy”…Referred to Disciplinary Committee
KBS announced a strict response to the incident.
The broadcaster stated, “We immediately removed the employee from his position upon recognizing the incident,” adding that “all related individuals will be referred to the disciplinary committee, and the matter will be handled under a zero-tolerance policy following a thorough investigation.”

Police plan to summon A again soon to further investigate the exact circumstances of the accident and the drinking involved. The investigation will focus on the details of drinking during work hours and the sequence of events leading to the incident.
